Click on one of us to see our individual profiles! Take the swag of Color Me Badd, the soul of Boyz II Men, and the effervescence of The Jackson 5 and born is urban-pop phenomenon SKYLINE. Put these five steadfast young men in an industry filled with stereotypes and puppetry and prepare to see the “boy band” stigma turned on its head. Cemented in brotherhood, united through an excess of talent, and marked by diversity, the group has set out on a call of duty to inject pop consumers with a dose of realness and deliver music that transcends definition. They’re coming from left field and playing the game like it’s never been played before—coming at it extraordinarily. Destiny has seeped in to the core of SKYLINE and begins the tale of the quintessential American dream come true. In SKYLINE’s world, Sky’s The Limit! and visions of world domination are no wilder than the dreams each one of us have within. One would consider a slew of TV appearances, radio airplay, featured magazine articles, legions of dedicated fans, and performances alongside pop’s foremost icons to suffice, but that doesn’t quite cut it. In actuality, the boys could care less about fame, but aim to gain significance through their music and role model behavior. Their name—a symbol representing five talented individuals from five distinct cities and walks of life united together—represents the hunger to reach the top and “make that change.” Look upwards to the horizon where the earth and the sky collide into one. That is the highest one can see—that is SKYLINE. Equipped with an arsenal of addictive and inventive music, fans have attuned to the unique combination of soul and pop that is the band’s identity. With this, the boys have pioneered a new genre by taking the harmony-rich roots of doo-wop and infusing it with the year’s top urban beats, thus creating Doo-Pop—a sound inspiring the heartbreak anthem of their first single, “Not the Only One.” Sifting through their ever-growing resume, one can’t help but notice the feverish madness SKYLINE has caused in their short time together. The boys have headlined a national commercial campaign with major wireless carrier Cricket Wireless, opened in concert for Grammy-nominated newcomer Colby O’Donis, shared the stage with Shoshana Bean of Broadway’s Wicked, packed world-renowned venues such as the Music Box at Fonda, Key Club, and House of Blues to capacity, and premiered the “NTOO” single on Florida’s leading pop music rotator, 107.9 PFM.In 2010, the band shifted into overdrive and set out on a take-no-prisoners promotional blitz. They began the year as guest invitees, opening in concert for R&B legends Babyface and El Debarge at The Conga Room for Jamie Foxx’s Foxxhole Live, broadcast on national XM/Satellite Radio. The event was hosted by femme fatale drummer Sheila E and comedian Mark Curry from hit TV series Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, amongst a crowd of celebrity, including Macy Gray and former Pussycat Doll, Carmit Bachar. Soon after, magazine submissions and award show invites flooded in. PopStar! Magazine Online and Fanvasion Magazine, both dripping with teen excitement, published interviews and blogs about the group, causing a title wave of responses. The boys then suited up to attend Clive Davis’ exclusive Grammy’s After-Party and single-handedly started the ‘soul train’ extravaganza at the esteemed NAACP Image Awards After-Party. Funny how a bit of charisma and a knack for gettin’ down can inspire hundreds of people to join on the dance floor—“Some of whom who’d never danced before,” stated the co-chairman of the NAACP as she thanked SKYLINE. Making their way to TV screens, a new week-long series, Metro Unplugged, chronicled the band’s journey as they stepped into a recording session with producer/former LaFace Records artist Wes Quave, prepared for an intimate performance, and created their very first music video featuring America’s Best Dance Crew winners We Are Heroes and L.A. 102.7 KIIS FM’s DJ Manny on the Streetz. The series debuted on Metro Transit TV and spread across Los Angeles like wildfire, airing on every city-wide bus, subway, and train, with an estimated count of 1.5 million viewers per day. In an effort to showcase the value of diversity in their ethnicities, the boys also appeared and performed live on hit Filipino television program Kababayan LA, featured on the world’s largest Asian-speaking network LA-18, and were inducted into many popular Armenian websites and discussion forums. As impactful as each of these moments have been, however, all were dwarfed in magnitude when the entertainment kingpin, the wonderful world of Disney, asked SKYLINE to headline a one and half hour concert special for Disneyland’s Grad Nite 2010 Pre-Show called Blast-Off! on May 20, 2010. With only three weeks to put together a twelve-song show filled with live singing, smooth harmonies, and high energy choreography for 40,000 screaming high school seniors, the boys knew the challenge and opportunity that lay ahead. With focus, determination, and intense practice, however, they shined brightly… and didn’t even use any pixie dust! SKYLINE has also given their time and talents whole-heartedly to non-profit organizations and charities, including Art 4 Life (American Cancer Society), UNICEF’s Artists 4 Humanity (Haiti Relief), Peace Quest (a stand against racism, sexism, and violence), and Passion For Dance Project (dance scholarship). Most recently, the boys headlined a performance at Covina Park, which was broadcast on FOX 11 News, that was held to raise money for Treasure, an 11 year-old bright-eyed girl struggling with a rare form of cancer. After the show, SKYLINE had a one-on-one session with Treasure and sang their acoustic rendition of Beyonce’s “Sweet Dreams.” Treasure was moved to tears, which caused the boys to shed some of their own. The group ended the meeting with a prayer for Treasure’s fight and vowed to spread the word about her cancer, to raise awareness, and provide support.Fast-forwarding ten years down the line, the boys want to look in hindsight and see the trail of sweat and footprints of hard work it took to sit upon the SKYLINE with the best. When asked about their success, the quintet states that not one of them could have foreshadowed such achievement. Most importantly, however, according to Shad, Vartan, Ryan, Erick, and Crespatrick, would be "…The messages we sing about and the ideals we stand for as artists" that have changed and touched their fans’ lives. "Music is a healer and being on stage is a powerful thing. We’re using that power for the good fight—to spread positivity, hope, and faith. And on top of that," they continue, "We get to experience this crazy journey with each other, as brothers and best friends. That’s what makes it so special!" So with their hearts on their sleeves and hands reaching for the stars, SKYLINE is surely ready to change the face of music while embarking on the crazy and emotional, trying yet rewarding adventure that is their dreams come true. |
